My Favorite Packing Trick

Packing can feel like a game of Tetris—especially when you want to bring just one more thing. After years of travel, I’ve found one simple hack that makes every trip smoother: the “First Night” Pouch.

What’s a “First Night” Pouch?

Before you close your suitcase, pack a small zip pouch or bag with everything you’ll want for your first night (and morning) at your destination:

  • Toothbrush + toothpaste
  • Face wipes or a mini cleanser
  • Comfy socks
  • Satin pillowcase
  • Satin eye mask
  • Phone charger
  • Tiny snack
  • And yes—a mini stitching kit or book!

Keep this pouch at the very top of your bag or in your carry-on. That way, if you arrive late, your luggage is delayed, or you’re just too tired to dig around, you have all your comforts right at hand.

Why Satin?

A satin pillowcase and eye mask make even a hotel or guest room feel a little more like home—and help your skin and hair, too!

Your Turn!
